Paris, September 24 (HS): Former world No. 1 Novak Djokovic will make his return to competitive tennis at next month’s Shanghai Masters, tournament organizers officially announced on Tuesday. In a post on social media, organizers wrote: “He’s back… our four-time champion will return to Shanghai this year.”The 24-time Grand Slam champion has not played an official match since his US Open semifinal defeat to Carlos Alcaraz earlier this month.
The 38-year-old had left his plans for the remainder of the season unclear following that loss, competing in far fewer events this year compared to previous seasons. So far, Djokovic has only confirmed his appearance at the Athens 250 event scheduled from November 2 to 8, which replaces the Belgrade tournament on this year’s calendar. His participation in the Paris Masters (October 27–November 2) and the prestigious ATP Finals in Turin (November 9–16) has yet to be confirmed.
A four-time champion in Shanghai, Djokovic previously lifted the title in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2018.
