
New Delhi, February 12 (HS): The Network Planning Group (NPG) has evaluated 5 infrastructure projects including road and airport under the PM Gatishakti initiative. The NPG has evaluated metro, RRTS, road and airport projects in the meeting. One metro, one RRTS, 2 roads and one airport have been evaluated in the 87th meeting of the NPG.
According to the ministry, these five projects are in line with the PM Gatishakti principles of integrated multimodal infrastructure, last-mile connectivity to economic and social nodes and intermodal coordination. These initiatives are expected to boost logistics efficiency, reduce travel time and provide significant socio-economic benefits in the regions.
These are the projects
Delhi–Panipat–Karnal Namo Bharat Project (RRTS Corridor): – This project is proposed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and is being implemented by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). It is a greenfield initiative extending for about 136.30 km between Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi and Karnal in Haryana. The corridor is designed to operate at an average speed of 90 kmph, which will provide a significantly faster transit option than existing modes of transport. The project is expected to reduce travel time from the current 3.5-4 hours to about 90 minutes, improving connectivity between major hubs of Delhi and Haryana.
Pune Metro Line 4:- Kharari-Khadakvasla with a spur line of Nal Stop-Warje-Manik Bagh- is proposed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and implemented by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited. The project extends for about 31.64 km. The integrated design of the current DPR stage includes interchanges with operational and proposed metro lines as well as feeder routes. It is expected to boost all-round ridership and facilitate seamless multimodal connectivity.
Mahbubnagar Economic Corridor:- “Development of four lane of Gudebellur-Marikal-Hasanpur/Potulamadugu section of NH-167” is a brownfield highway project under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. It is implemented by the National Highways Authority of India. Located in Narayanpet and Mahbubnagar districts of Telangana, the project aims to upgrade and realign the existing NH-167 corridor. It includes bypasses around major cities on a four-lane structure over a design length of 90.37 km. As a major component of the Hyderabad-Panaji Economic Corridor, this initiative will also improve inter-state connectivity between Hyderabad and Raichur.
Mungiakami-Champaknagar (NH-08 Corridor):- Proposed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and implemented by National Highways Infrastructure and Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), the project aims to improve and widen the existing NH-08 corridor from Mungiakami to Champaknagar in Tripura. Covering a length of 25.45 km as per design, the project involves upgradation of the existing road to a four-lane highway. It includes necessary bypasses and realignments to decongest built-up areas. The project is expected to enhance connectivity in West Tripura and Khowai districts, integrating major economic and social nodes and supporting regional inter-state connectivity.
Development of Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhyadham (Phase-II):- The Phase II expansion of Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhya is aimed at meeting the growing demand for air travel in the region. The existing terminal has a peak hour capacity of 674 passengers and a capacity of 1 million passengers annually. A new integrated terminal building will be constructed to meet the expected increase in passenger traffic. The new terminal will be designed to handle 4,000 passengers during peak hours and 6 million passengers annually by 2046-47. The project also includes strengthening and extending the runway, building additional parking bays, a multi-level car park, fire station, ATC tower and better access from the city side.
