Odisha to Introduce New Excise Policy by End of This Month, Says Minister Prithviraj Harichandan

Bhubaneswar, 9 May (H.S.): Odisha Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced today that the state government is set to introduce a new Excise Policy by the end of this month, which will remain in effect for the next three years.

Speaking to the media, Minister Harichandan highlighted that unlike previous policies which were applicable for only one year, the upcoming policy will be more comprehensive and long-term in nature. The new excise policy will be effective for a period of three years, marking a shift from the annual renewal format followed in the past, he stated.

He further mentioned that the government is actively considering several changes to the existing policy after thorough deliberations. We are studying excise policies of various other states and working on translating and adapting best practices into our own framework, the minister added.

The move aims to bring greater stability and effectiveness to the state’s excise regulations, with revisions expected to address key operational and regulatory challenges.
