Lucknow, 12 March (HS): On
Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath criticized opposition
parties and people who venerate Mughal monarch Aurangzeb, questioning their
mental health and motives. Speaking at a media gathering in Lucknow, he stated
that only a mentally ill person could see Aurangzeb as an admirable character.
Adityanath
was taking part in an event called Manthan: Kumbh and Beyond, which was
organized by the weekly Organiser, an RSS affiliate. His statements occurred
amid a scandal generated by Maharashtra Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi’s remarks
on Aurangzeb, which resulted in his suspension from the state legislature till
March 26 and the filing of various FIRs against him for allegedly hurting
public sensibilities.
Addressing the audience, Adityanath stated that
people who do not believe in India’s Sanatan traditions and culture and instead
conspire against them should consider the fate of those they praise. I truly believe that only a psychologically
twisted individual can consider Aurangzeb to be an ideal figure. I don’t believe any psychologically mature or
intellectual person would look up to such a nasty tyrant.
In a scathing remark, he said, If somebody
actually thinks this with full understanding, they should first name their own
kid Aurangzeb. They should also be
prepared to endure the torture Aurangzeb gave to his father, Shah Jahan. Adityanath
then pointed to Shah Jahan’s own writings regarding Aurangzeb, claiming, “Why
should we learn about Aurangzeb from others since Shah Jahan himself stated in
his biography that no one should have a son as deplorable as Aurangzeb?” He remarked that even a Hindu son is superior
since he serves his parents while they are still living and delivers water to
their spirits after they die. But you,
Aurangzeb, left me thirsty and dying. He said that Aurangzeb imprisoned Shah
Jahan in the Agra Fort, allowing him only a tiny pot of water every 24 hours,
causing his long and excruciating death.
Aurangzeb was the guy who ruthlessly murdered his own brother. If they sincerely adore Aurangzeb, they
should name their children after him. I’ll applaud them for their
decision. However, they should be
prepared to accept the consequences. Adityanath concluded his speech by saying,
May God give them wisdom to honor India’s true heroes and stop idolizing
those who have inflicted cruelty on this land. This is a new India that
respects its faith, strives to become the world’s greatest economy, and
responds to those who undermine its traditions.”
