Srinagar- The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday filed a detailed chargesheet against six individuals, including three dead terrorists and a Pakistan based handler, in connection with the Pahalgam terror attack.

The chargesheet also names Pakistan based Lashkar e Taiba (LeT) and its proxy outfit The Resistance Front (TRF) for their role in the attack that claimed the lives of 25 tourists and a local pony operator.

The 1,597 page charge sheet was filed before a special NIA court in Jammu and details a deep rooted conspiracy traced back to Pakistan, which the agency said has been unabatedly sponsoring terrorism against India.

According to the chargesheet, the attack was planned, facilitated and executed by LeT chief Hafeez Saeed, who is designated as a global terrorist by India and the United States, and TRF chief Habibullah Malik alias Sajid Jatt. Sajid Jatt, described as a Pakistani handler, has also been named as an accused in the case.

The NIA said three Pakistani terrorists carried out the April 22 attack at the Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam, where victims were allegedly targeted on religious lines. The three terrorists were later killed by the Army during Operation Mahadev in the Dachigam area on the outskirts of Srinagar on July 29, nearly 100 days after the attack.

The slain terrorists were identified as Faisal Jatt alias Suleman Shah, Habeeb Tahir alias Jibran, and Hamza Afghani.

The chargesheet invokes provisions related to waging war against the Government of India, among other offences.

The agency said the chargesheet was the outcome of an eight month long “meticulous scientific probe” into the attack.

Two other accused, Parvaiz Ahmad and Bashir Ahmad Jothar, who were arrested on June 22 for allegedly harbouring the terrorists, have also been chargesheeted. During interrogation, the two men disclosed the identities of the three attackers and confirmed that they were Pakistani nationals affiliated with the banned LeT outfit.
