New Delhi, 19 May (H.S.): In retaliation for India’s operation targeting terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Pakistan attempted a drone and missile strike on the Golden Temple in Amritsar during the night of May 7-8. Major General Kartik C Seshadri, the General Officer Commanding of the 15th Infantry Division, reported this incident on monday, stating that Pakistan lacked legitimate military targets and was likely to attack civilian and religious sites. He noted that the Golden Temple was a prominent target.
In anticipation of such attacks, the Indian Army mobilized additional air defense assets to protect the site. Pakistan launched its assault, utilizing drones and long-range missiles under the cover of darkness on May 8. Major General Seshadri confirmed that the Indian Army was well-prepared and successfully intercepted all incoming threats, preventing any damage to the Golden Temple.
The Indian Army showcased its air defense capabilities, including the AKASH missile system and L-70 air defense guns, which neutralized the incoming threats. A defense ministry statement reported that various Indian cities and military bases were also targeted during this assault, but they were defended by integrated counter-UAS grid and air defense systems. This escalation followed India’s Operation Sindoor, a coordinated military response to a previous terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians.
