– Discussion on Liquor Prohibition Bill deferred

Aizawl, 05 March (HS): An important Pension Amendment Bill has approved on Wednesday during the budget session of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly, while discussion on the Liquor Prohibition Amendment Bill was postponed at the behest of the opposition.

The session began with the scheduled Question Hour. After this, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vanlalhana introduced the ‘Mizoram (Pension of Members of Defunct Mizo District Council and Defunct Pawi-Lakher Regional Council) (Amendment) Bill, 2025’ in the House. All the members of the House supported this bill and it was passed.

Under this amendment, the monthly pension of former members of the defunct Pawi-Lakher Regional Council has been increased from ₹20,000 to ₹40,000. Apart from this, additional medical assistance of ₹2,000 will also be available to them now.

On the other hand, the ‘Mizoram Liquor (Prohibition) Amendment Bill, 2025’, on which discussion was proposed, was deferred for the time being. The decision was taken after opposition members said that there was a need for more deliberations on it.

With the proceedings coming to an end, the Speaker adjourned the session till 10:30 am on Thursday.
