People surrendered weapons in various districts of Manipur

Imphal, 05 March (HS): Following the appeal of Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, people in three districts of the state—Bishnupur, Imphal East and Imphal West—have voluntarily surrendered weapons and ammunition. A total of 16 types of weapons, various types of ammunition and other items were handed over to the police in these districts.

Police said on Wednesday that various types of weapons and explosive materials were surrendered at CDO Unit, Kumbi Police Station and PGCI Police Station in Bishnupur district. These include SLR rifle, INSAS rifle, .303 rifle, LMG magazine, smoke shell, SBBL gun, detonator and hand grenade.

Weapons were also surrendered at CDO Unit, Andro Police Station, Porampat Police Station and Irilbung Police Station in Imphal East district. The public handed over 9 mm pistol, live rounds of M16 rifle, an unidentified bomb, .38 mm and 12 bore cartridges, stun grenades, BP jackets, helmets, charger clips and other explosive materials to the police.

SBBL, .36 HE hand grenades, tear smoke shells, AK-47 cartridges, .32 pistol (USA), Bofeng hand held set, helmets, bulletproof plates, high trajectory mortars and military clothing were also surrendered at Mayang Imphal police station in Imphal West district.

Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla appreciated this effort of surrendering weapons by the public and called it an important step towards peace and stability. The police administration has also appealed to the public to voluntarily deposit any illegal weapons so that peace can be restored in the state.
