Delhi, 28 July (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Divya Deshmukh on becoming FIDE Women’s World Chess Champion 2025. “Koneru Humpy has also displayed immense prowess throughout the championship. Best wishes to both players for their future endeavours”, Modi stated.
The Prime Minister posted on X:
“A historic final featuring two outstanding Indian chess players!
Proud of the young Divya Deshmukh on becoming FIDE Women’s World Chess Champion 2025. Congratulations to her for this remarkable feat, which will inspire several youngsters.
Koneru Humpy has also displayed immense prowess throughout the championship.
Best wishes to both players for their future endeavours. “
Divya Deshmukh has become the fourth Indian woman and the 88th Indian player to earn the Grandmaster title after winning the FIDE Women’s World Cup 2025. The 19-year-old triumphed over Koneru Humpy in the final held in Batumi, Georgia. She joins Humpy, R. Vaishali, and Harika Dronavali as the only Indian women to achieve this honor. Unlike the traditional path requiring three Grandmaster norms and a 2500 FIDE rating, Divya secured the title by winning the World Cup, marking a significant achievement in her chess career.
