PM Modi Expresses Condolences on the Death of Nuclear Scientist Srinivasan

New Delhi, May 20 (HS): On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the passing of Dr. M.R. Srinivasan, a prominent figure in India’s nuclear energy program.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi wrote, I am deeply saddened by the demise of Dr. M.R. Srinivasan, a stalwart of India’s nuclear energy program. His pivotal role in the development of critical nuclear infrastructure has been the foundation of our self-reliance in the energy sector. He will be remembered for his inspirational leadership of the Atomic Energy Commission. India will always be grateful to him for advancing scientific progress and mentoring many young scientists. My condolences are with his family and friends during this time of sorrow.

Dr. Srinivasan, former Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and former Secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy, passed away at the age of 95 in Udhagamandalam, Tamil Nadu.

Malur Ramasamy Srinivasan was born in 5th January, 1930 in Bangalore.He was an influential Indian nuclear scientist and mechanical engineer, instrumental in India’s nuclear power program and Pressurized Heavy-Water Reactor development. He was honored with the Padma Vibhushan.He played a significant role in shaping the country’s nuclear energy direction for over four decades.
