Vatican City, April 25 (H.S.): Preparations are underway for the sealing ceremony of Pope Francis’s coffin, leading up to his state funeral, set for Saturday. Cardinal Kevin Farrell will lead the sealing ceremony at St. Peter’s Basilica, attended by several cardinals and Holy See officials. Following the public opening of the Basilica on Wednesday, over 50,000 people visited to pay their respects within just 24 hours. The sealing ritual will involve prominent Cardinals and Vatican officials, including Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra and the late Pope’s secretary.

Indian President Droupadi Murmu will attend the funeral on April 25 and 26, representing India and conveying condolences on behalf of the nation. On April 25, she will pay tribute at the Basilica, and on April 26, she will participate in the service at St. Peter’s Square.

The Vatican has confirmed that 130 foreign delegations will attend, including heads of state and monarchs, such as U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron, highlighting the global significance of the event.

Prime Minister Modi expressed deep sorrow over the Pope’s passing, praising his compassion and dedication to the marginalized, emphasizing that his affection for Indians would be remembered. A state mourning will be observed in India on Saturday, with national flags at half-mast and no official entertainment. Notably, Pope Francis, who took office on March 13, 2013, was the first Latin American pope in history, leaving a lasting impact on the Catholic community worldwide.
