Moscow, March 15 (HS): Dmitry Medvedev, the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, stated that if Ukrainian soldiers in the Kursk region refuse to lay down their arms, they will be ruthlessly destroyed. Earlier, President Vladimir Putin informed the Security Council that Ukrainian soldiers who surrender near Kursk will be guaranteed life and decent treatment.
According to Russia’s state news agency TASS, Putin wrote on his Telegram channel, This is a very humanitarian approach from our country, but there is another side for Ukrainian soldiers. If they refuse to surrender, they will all be mercilessly eliminated. Previously, on March 13, Putin stated that the situation in Russia’s Kursk region is under full control. A group of Ukrainian soldiers is completely isolated. Notably, on March 12, Putin visited one of the command posts of the Russian military group’s Kursk unit.
In August 2024, a massive attack by the Ukrainian army began in the Kursk region. According to the Russian General Staff, more than 86 percent of the territory captured by the Ukrainian army has already been liberated. Residents are being evacuated from the freed areas of Suja. In some parts of the border, the Russian army has entered. Since the beginning of the fighting in the Kursk region, Ukraine has lost over 67,000 soldiers.
According to a CNN report, Russian President Vladimir Putin has urged Ukrainian soldiers in the Russian region of Kursk to surrender. He stated that diplomatic discussions are ongoing regarding a potential ceasefire mediated by the United States with Kyiv. In a meeting with members of the Russian Security Council on Friday, Putin accused Ukrainian soldiers of committing crimes against civilians in the region but acknowledged American President Donald Trump’s wish to spare the lives of Ukrainian soldiers, claiming that the lives of soldiers who surrender will be guaranteed.
He mentioned that Russia is working to restore relations with the United States. Putin’s remarks came after meeting with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Vitkoff in Moscow on Thursday. Notably, earlier this week, Ukrainian officials accepted a U.S. proposal for a 30-day ceasefire along the entire front line following talks with their American counterparts in Saudi Arabia.
