Washington, September 12 (HS): Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed Abdulrahman Al Thani will arrive in Washington on Friday, where he is scheduled to meet senior American officials. The visit comes in the backdrop of Israel recently targeting Hamas leaders in Doha.

According to a report by Israel’s Channel 12, Al Thani is scheduled to meet US Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. There is also a possibility that he may meet President Donald Trump during the visit.

The trip is being seen as a sign that Washington aims to further strengthen its relationship with Qatar. Earlier this week, President Trump instructed his officials to pursue a new security agreement with Doha.

Qatar already holds the status of a Major Non-NATO Ally. However, if the new agreement is finalised, it could involve additional US arms sales to Qatar or the deployment of more American troops on its territory.
