New Delhi, July 14 (HS): Wholesale inflation’s significant decline has spurred a decrease in retail inflation, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) indicating a drop to 2.10 percent in June, the lowest in 77 months. This figure compares to 2.82 percent in May and 5.08 percent in June 2024.

The National Statistical Office (NSO) attributes this decline to falling food prices, particularly in vegetables, pulses, meat, and milk, showing a decrease of 72 basis points from May. This is the lowest year-on-year inflation since January 2019, when it was 1.97 percent. The NSO highlighted the impact of favorable base effects and reduced prices across various food categories.

Additionally, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) revised its retail inflation forecast for the fiscal year 2025-26 from 4 percent to 3.7 percent, and lowered the April-June quarter estimate from 3.6 percent to 2.9 percent.
