

Guwahati, 20 April (HS): In a commendable effort to conserve wildlife, a team of Silchar Railway Protection Force (RPF) post of Lumding Division under Northeast Frontier Railway rescued and recovered 450 live frogs during a special operation conducted at Silchar Railway Station.
Northeast Frontier Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said on Sunday that Silchar Railway Protection Force officials detected three unclaimed bags near platform number 01. On searching, about 150 live frogs were found in each bag, totalling 450 frogs.
Despite a lot of efforts, no person came forward to claim ownership of the bags. Acting promptly and responsibly, the RPF team safely handed over the recovered frogs to the custody of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Barak Valley Wildlife Division, Silchar for proper rehabilitation and further action.
This incident highlights the active role of Railway Protection Force in contributing not only in safety of passengers and railway property but also in protection of wildlife and environment.
