Jammu, 30 April (H.S.): National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament, Agha Ruhullah Mehdi, today called on the Central Government to ensure justice is delivered for the recent Pahalgam terror attack without harming innocent people in the process.

Speaking to reporters in the Hapatnar area of South Kashmir, where he visited the family of Syed Adil Hussain, a pony handler who died while saving tourists during the attack, Ruhullah said, “the Government must do everything in its power to bring the culprits of this attack to justice. At the same time, it must ensure that no innocent lives are caught in the crossfire.”

He emphasized that while the nation seeks a strong and just response, no justice can be achieved if innocent people—such as labourers, pony handlers, or taxi drivers—are wrongfully targeted. “If even a single innocent person is harmed, the entire idea of justice stands defeated,” he said.

Calling for restraint, Ruhullah urged Central agencies and security forces to act with precision. “This is the demand of the entire country: justice must prevail, but not at the cost of innocent lives.”

Responding to questions on India’s diplomatic stance and the future of Jammu and Kashmir, Ruhullah said the region’s people have suffered the most from violence, regardless of their religion. “We are the biggest victims. We want permanent peace and a just resolution that benefits the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”

While refusing to comment on political issues like Statehood during a time of mourning, Ruhullah noted, “Obituaries and the demand for Statehood are separate matters. But yes, it is an issue that must be addressed in due time.”

He reiterated support for any national action taken in the spirit of justice, but urged caution to ensure fairness and accountability throughout the process.
