Thiruvananthapuram, 09 April(HS): Devotees of Lord Ayyappa, the presiding deity at the holy shrine of Sabarimala in Kerala need not pay their obeisance at the Vavar Temple at Erumeli near the main temple. An Ashtamangala Prasnam (Deva Prasnam) held at Sabarimala on Saturday and Sunday found that there never was a character by name Vavar, claimed as a close associate of Lord Ayyappa,
The Deva Prasnam, held under the guidance and supervision of Padmanabha Sharma, a Vedic scholar of repute found that the temple for Vavar built near the Ayyappa Temple was in reality a place of worship for Vapura Swamy, the close aide of Lord Ayyappa. It was at the instance of Lord Ayyappa, a temple was built with Vapura Swamy as the presiding deity, according to Padmanabha Sharma.
Sharma was assisted by nearly two dozen Vedic scholars who are all experts in astrology, astronomy, puranas and agama sasthra, according to V G Tampi, president, Kerala VHP.
Ashtamangala Prasnam is a combination of astrology, astronomy and vedic mathematics and agama sasthra. Only select few among the Vedic Science practice this complex method of elucidating the likes and dislikes of the Lord as well as the past, present and future.
The Prasnam interpreted the findings from stars’ constellations, time, and time of sunrise and sunset which they described as a message from Lord Ayyappa that a temple should be built in honor of Vapura Swamy. “There existed a Vapura Swamy Temple near Sabarimala. But it was somehow got destroyed,” said Sharma.
Tampi pointed out that the holy shrine of Sabarimala itself was vandalized many times in the past by forest brigands. “The entire temple complex was gutted in a fire in May 1950. The temple which we see today was the reconstructed structure. Even the idol which was worshipped by the devotees was destroyed and a new idol built of Panch Loha (five metals) was installed after the 1950 inferno,” said Tampi.
The Vedic scholars said that there are references about Vapura Swamy in Vedic literature. But there is no mention about anybody by name Vavar. It was in 6th century that a Muslim arrived in Kerala coast for spices trade and that itself proves that the character by name Vavar has no relevance in the life and times of Lord Ayyappa,” said Prof Poojappura Krishnan Nair, scholar in Sanskrit and the great epics.
Vavar is a manufactured character by the Leftist politicians in the State who are always bendinh backwards to appease the Muslim minorities. They distorted history by portraying Tipu Sultan as a philanthropist and Variyankunnan, known as the butcher of Malabar, who was the master brain behind the mass pogrom of Hindus in the 1921 riots, as the angel of peace.
So, next time, when the devotees go to Sabarimala, they can very well ignore the character Vavar who is raking in crores of rupees during every annual festival at the shrine..
