New Delhi, March 16 (H.S.): Former Indian team legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar is regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the world of cricket. He has achieved numerous records throughout his cricket career, many of which remain unbroken. Among those records is one that may be incredibly difficult for any batsman to break. We are talking about the record of 100 international centuries. The great batsman achieved this feat on this very day in 2012. Today marks 13 years since he set this record, and this monumental achievement still stands.
The master blaster, Sachin, accomplished the feat of completing 100 international centuries during an Asia Cup match against Bangladesh. This match was played on March 16, 2012, in Mirpur. In this match, Sachin scored 114 runs off 147 balls. Consequently, the Indian team was able to put up a total of 289 runs for the loss of five wickets. However, India lost this match by five wickets.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) commemorated Sachin’s achievement. BCCI wrote on social media platform X, The century of centuries! On this day in 2012, the great Sachin scored his 100th international century. He is the only cricketer to achieve this milestone.
Sachin Tendulkar is the only cricketer to score 100 centuries in international cricket, comprising 51 in Tests and 49 in ODIs. Current Indian star Virat Kohli, with 82 international centuries, ranks second, having surpassed Sachin in ODIs with 51 centuries, while holding 30 in Tests and one in T20s. Kohli, 36, has retired from T20 internationals but continues in ODIs and Tests, potentially aiming to break Sachin’s overall record if he plays for several more years. Sachin retired on November 16, 2013, after an illustrious career that saw him score 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs and 15,921 runs in 200 Tests.
