New Delhi, May 5 (HS): The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the central government while hearing a petition challenging the blocking of YouTube channel 4PM. A bench headed by Justice BR Gawai has ordered the issuance of the notice. The next hearing in the case will take place next week.
Journalist Sanjay Sharma, who runs the YouTube channel, has filed the petition. During the hearing, senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, representing the petitioner, demanded the cancellation of the order to block the YouTube channel. The petition requests that the central government explain the reason for blocking the channel. Sibal stated that the channel was blocked without explaining the reasons, which is arbitrary and entirely unconstitutional. The petition also seeks to annul Rule 16 of the Information Technology Rules.
