New Delhi, 28 February (HS): A bench headed by Justice BR Gavai of the Supreme Court has rejected the petition demanding a CBI inquiry into the stampede that took place at New Delhi Railway Station on 15 February.
This petition was filed by Anand Legal Aid Forum Trust. The petition said that according to eyewitnesses of this incident, about two hundred people died in it. The petition said that the victims of the accident were not given adequate compensation by underreporting the number of people killed in this incident. During the hearing, the court asked the petitioner what evidence do you have that two hundred people died in this accident. The court asked those people whose family members lost their lives in this incident to contact the court directly to get relief.
In this case, lawyer Vishal Tiwari also filed a petition in the Supreme Court and said that the Centre and all the states should jointly form an expert committee which prepares guidelines for crowd management and preventing stampede incidents.
