SC rules Hare Krishna temple belongs to ISKCON Bangalore

YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia approaches Supreme Court in obscene comment case

New Delhi, May 16 (HS): The Supreme Court has stated that the Hare Krishna Temple located in Bengaluru belongs to the ISKCON Society of Bengaluru and not to the ISKCON Society of Mumbai. A bench headed by Justice A.S. Oka issued this order while overturning the Karnataka High Court’s decision. The High Court had ruled in favor of ISKCON Mumbai regarding control over the prestigious Hare Krishna Temple and educational complex in Bengaluru.

In fact, the trial court in Bengaluru had declared the Hare Krishna Temple and educational complex in Bengaluru to be under the jurisdiction of ISKCON Bengaluru in 2009. This order was challenged by ISKCON Mumbai in the Karnataka High Court. The High Court, in its order of May 2011, declared the Hare Krishna Temple and educational complex in Bengaluru to be under ISKCON Mumbai. ISKCON Bengaluru challenged this High Court order in the Supreme Court in June 2011.

ISKCON Bengaluru is registered in Karnataka and claimed that it has been managing the temple in Bengaluru for decades. On the other hand, ISKCON Mumbai claimed that ISKCON Bengaluru is merely a branch of it and that the concerned property rightly falls under its jurisdiction.
