Schools must focus on using new tools to aid creativity, curiosity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills: LG Manoj Sinha

Jammu, Dec 10 (KINS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday urged schools and educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir to work with a single mission — to nurture unique individuals equipped for future challenges.

Speaking at the anniversary celebration of a private school in Jammu, Sinha said the world is undergoing rapid transformation due to cutting-edge technologies, making it essential for schools to adopt new tools that promote creativity, curiosity, critical thinking and problem-solving.

He emphasised that curiosity and critical thinking are the greatest strengths of students, and stressed that teachers and parents must allow children the freedom to learn according to their interests, passions and abilities so they can develop their talents without pressure.

The Lt Governor highlighted four key pillars that educational institutions must prioritise — access, equity, quality and outcome. He said educators today must ensure students are both college-ready and future-ready, equipped with skills that evolve with changing global demands.

Sinha also said the introduction of artificial intelligence in classrooms will bring a major shift in teaching and learning, enabling teachers to use data-based insights to better understand student needs and offer improved guidance. The hybrid learning model, he added, will make technology-driven education accessible to all.

In this new environment, the role of teachers will evolve from information providers to true mentors. Their core responsibility, Sinha said, will be to instill essential skills, creativity, and a sense of purpose in students — while also introducing them to their traditions, language, values, compassion, non-violence and brotherhood.(KINS)
