Seat sharing between BJP and AGP in Panchayat polls: Patowary

Dhubri (Assam), 8 April (HS): Assam’s Forest and Environment Minister Chandramohan Patwari held a meeting with BJP and Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) workers in Dhubri. He held a meeting with BJP-AGP leaders of South Salmara and Mankachar areas of Dhubri district regarding the upcoming Panchayat elections and discussed the election strategy.

Minister Patwari said that there will be an agreement between BJP and AGP regarding seats in Dhubri, South Salmara and Mankachar districts. BJP will contest all the four district council seats of Golakganj assembly constituency. Out of the four district council seats of Gauripur assembly, two will be given to BJP, while the remaining two will be given to AGP.

Out of the four district council seats of Dhubri assembly constituency, BJP will contest on three and AGP on one. Out of the four seats of South Salmara-Mankachar assembly, BJP will contest on two and AGP on two.

At the same time, BJP will contest alone on all four Zila Parishad seats of Birshingha Jaruwa and Bilasipara assembly constituencies. The minister said that there has been coordination between the two parties on seats in regional panchayats as well.

Out of 21 regional panchayats of Golakganj area, BJP will contest in 17 and AGP in 4 panchayats. Out of 33 regional panchayats of Gauripur, BJP will contest in 25 and AGP in 8. Out of 18 regional panchayats of Dhubri assembly constituency, BJP will get the opportunity to field candidates in 16 and AGP in two.

While talking to journalists, Minister Patwari said that this time BJP will go among the people with the issue of ‘development’. He said that many public welfare schemes of the Assam government – especially ‘Arunodaya’ and ‘Niyut Moina’ schemes have also benefited the minority community. On this basis, he is confident that this time BJP will get the support of the minority community in Dhubri district.
