ODENSE, Denmark , 16 October (H.S.): Indian shuttlers Lakshya Sen and the formidable men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have powered into the second round of the Denmark Open 2025 after securing hard-fought, come-from-behind victories in their opening matches on Wednesday.
In the men’s singles competition at the Jyske Bank Arena, world No. 21 Lakshya Sen demonstrated remarkable resilience to overcome Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen. After a sluggish start and losing the first game 10-21, the Paris 2024 semi-finalist staged a spectacular turnaround, dominating the second game 21-8 before clinching the tense decider 21-18. The intense clash lasted for an hour and 19 minutes, marking Sen’s third career victory over Nguyen.
Similarly, the sixth-seeded duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had to dig deep to fend off a challenge from Scottish brothers Christopher and Matthew Grimley. After conceding the opening game 17-21, the Indian pair stormed back to win the subsequent games 21-11 and 21-17.
The victory, achieved in an hour and four minutes, keeps their title hopes alive as they aim to improve on their recent runner-up finishes at the Hong Kong Open and China Masters.
However, it was not a clean sweep for the Indian contingent, as the mixed doubles pair of Mohit Jaglan and Lakshita Jaglan bowed out of the tournament following a straight-games defeat to Indonesia’s Adnan Maulana and Indah Cahya Sari Jamil.
