
New Delhi, September 9 (HS): The domestic equity market opened on a positive note today, with both benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty, trading in the green despite persistent volatility. Buying and selling pressures were evident right from the opening bell, leading to fluctuations, but the overall momentum remained on the positive side.
By 10:00 a.m., the Sensex was up 268.38 points or 0.33 percent at 81,055.68, while the Nifty gained 76.15 points or 0.31 percent, trading at 24,849.30. Earlier, the Sensex had opened 342.39 points higher at 81,129.69, touching an intraday high of 81,162.07 and a low of 81,017.73 during the first hour of trade. The Nifty too opened with a jump of 90.95 points at 24,864.10, oscillating between a high of 24,879.05 and a low of 24,831.45 in early deals.
Market breadth remained slightly in favor of the bulls. Out of 2,150 actively traded shares, 1,128 were in green while 1,022 were in red. On the Sensex, 17 stocks gained while 13 declined, whereas on the Nifty, 31 out of 50 stocks were trading higher against 19 losers.
Among the top gainers were Tech Mahindra, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, TCS, Bajaj Finserv, and SBI Life Insurance, advancing between 0.42 percent and 1.84 percent. On the losing side, Shriram Finance, Tata Motors, Tata Consumer Products, Titan Company, and NTPC were down between 0.44 percent and 0.70 percent.
In the previous session on Monday, the Sensex had settled 76.54 points higher at 80,787.30, while the Nifty closed 32.15 points up at 24,773.15.
