Chennai, 23 February (H.S.) : In a significant development, the police have seized a luxury car and 100 sovereigns of gold from Gnanasekaran, the accused in the Anna University sexual assault case.
Gnanasekaran, a professor at the College of Engineering in Anna University, was arrested earlier this month for allegedly sexually harassing and assaulting a female student.
During the investigation, the police discovered that Gnanasekaran had acquired wealth disproportionate to his income. Consequently, they conducted a search of his premises and seized a luxury car and 100 sovereigns of gold.
The police are likely to invoke the Tamil Nadu Public Men (Criminal Misconduct) Act against Gnanasekaran, which allows for the confiscation of ill-gotten wealth.
The case has sparked widespread outrage, with students and faculty members demanding stricter action against Gnanasekaran and measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
