Sharma and Mandhana Sweep September's ICC Player of the Month Honours

Delhi, 16 October (H.S.): Indian cricketers Abhishek Sharma and Smriti Mandhana have been named the ICC Players of the Month for September 2025, winning the men’s and women’s awards, respectively, for their stellar performances.Abhishek Sharma was recognized for his explosive run in the Asia Cup T20I tournament.

He amassed 314 runs across seven matches at an impressive average of 44.85 and a blistering strike rate of 200. His dominant display earned him the Player of the Tournament award and propelled him to a career-high 931 rating points in the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings.

Sharma secured the award ahead of his teammate Kuldeep Yadav and Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett. It’s a wonderful feeling to win this award, Sharma said.

I am happy that I could contribute significantly in crucial matches for the team. The mindset and culture within our squad are incredible, enabling us to win even in tough situations. I am grateful to the team management and all my teammates.

Meanwhile, Indian women’s team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana was honored for her exceptional form during the home ODI series against Australia. She scored a total of 308 runs across three innings with scores of 58, 117, and 125.

Mandhana averaged 77 at a strike rate of 135.68 and set a new record for the fastest ODI century by an Indian woman, reaching the milestone in just 50 balls in the third match. She beat out competition from South Africa’s Tazmin Brits and Pakistan’s Sidra Ameen.

Receiving the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award is a great honor, Mandhana stated. This motivates me to perform even better. It is a result of the team’s collective effort and belief. My goal has always been to perform for the team and help India win.

The winners were determined through votes from a specialist panel, including former international cricketers and media representatives, as well as from cricket fans around the world.
