New Delhi, 27 October (H.S.): India’s One-Day International vice-captain, Shreyas Iyer, has been admitted to a hospital in Sydney and is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after suffering an internal injury during the third ODI against Australia. The incident occurred on Saturday when Iyer was injured while attempting to take a catch to dismiss Alex Carey.
Although he initially seemed to endure the impact, he later complained of discomfort upon returning to the dressing room. He was promptly transported to a hospital for further assessment. It is anticipated that he will remain in the ICU for a few more days before being transferred to a general ward. His parents are traveling to Australia to be with him.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released an official statement on Monday confirming the nature of the injury. Scans have revealed an injury to his spleen. He is undergoing treatment. His condition is stable and he is recovering, the statement said.
The BCCI’s medical team is closely monitoring his injury in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India. The Indian team’s doctor will remain in Sydney to oversee his daily progress. While initial estimates suggested Iyer would be sidelined for about three weeks, his recovery period may now be longer, depending on his response to treatment. Iyer is not part of India’s T20 squad.
