
London, 29 October (H.S.): October 29 – Legendary England fast bowler James Anderson was awarded a knighthood on Tuesday during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle. The Princess Royal, Princess Anne, bestowed the prestigious honor upon the 43-year-old for his outstanding services to the sport of cricket.
Anderson, who is the leading Test wicket-taker for England, concluded his remarkable 21-year international career in July 2024. He retired with a final tally of 704 wickets in 188 Test matches, making him the most successful fast bowler in the history of the format.
Only spinners Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Shane Warne (708) have claimed more wickets in Test cricket. Anderson also holds the record for the most wickets for England in One-Day Internationals, with 269, even though his last appearance in the format was in 2015.Since retiring from international duties, Sir James has continued to feature in domestic cricket. He played for his county club, Lancashire, in the 2024 season and made a significant return to T20 cricket after almost a decade, helping his team reach Finals Day.
He also secured a wildcard contract with the Manchester Originals for The Hundred league. It is understood that Anderson is in talks to extend his county career into the 2025 season.
