Sitharaman Highlights Transformative Impact of PM Internship Scheme in Hampi

Delhi, 16 October (H.S.): Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman interacted with over 60 interns of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) in Hampi, Karnataka, on Wednesday, October 15. The event, which also included representatives fro+m leading companies such as Infosys, TCS, and Honeywell, showcased the success stories of youth who have benefited from the program.

During the session, Sitharaman engaged with the interns, listening to their experiences and offering guidance for their professional journeys. She commended them for their dedication and emphasized the importance of adaptability in the modern workplace.

It is pleasing to know the different ways in which this internship is contributing to personality development, the Minister said. Interns are learning core aspects of work and also sharpening other skills such as overcoming barriers to communication.

The event highlighted several remarkable stories of transformation. Kaluva Hari Krishna from Andhra Pradesh shared how the scheme led to a full-time role at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a journey he described as truly transformative.

Another intern, R. Lakshmi Prasanna, explained how her internship at Infosys provided crucial corporate exposure and confidence.Sitharaman particularly lauded the journey of Gouri H, an intern from Kerala and the daughter of a single mother, who secured a position at Honeywell.

I am impressed with Gouri’s positivity and perseverance, the Minister remarked. It is stories like hers that embody the true intent and spirit behind PMIS.The Prime Minister Internship Scheme aims to enhance the employability of Indian youth aged 21-24 by offering paid internships in top companies, with a goal of providing over one crore opportunities in the next five years.

The interaction underscored the government’s commitment to nurturing a future-ready workforce for its ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision.
