Sitharaman Launches Frontier Tech Repository, Flags Responsible AI Use

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while addressing

New Delhi, September 15 (HS): Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday released a report prepared by NITI Aayog in the capital and also launched the Frontier Tech Repository developed by the think tank. She emphasized the need for regulatory frameworks that encourage innovation in emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), while ensuring responsible and ethical use rather than discouragement.

Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT Ashwini Vaishnaw was also present at the event. The report, titled Artificial Intelligence for Viksit Bharat: An Opportunity for Accelerated Economic Growth, highlights AI as a transformative force that can drive rapid economic progress.

Sitharaman underlined the government’s commitment not only to the adoption of AI technologies but also to their responsible application across sectors. “AI is fast-evolving, real-time, and dynamic, hence we must remain alert and ensure ethical safeguards, as these technologies present challenges alongside opportunities,” she said.

According to the report, AI is expected to generate new employment opportunities while simultaneously displacing existing jobs, especially in clerical, routine, and low-skilled categories.
