Speeding Car Kills Schoolgirl, Injures Boy in Ramanathapuram

Chennai, 14 April (H.S.) : A tragic accident claimed the life of a schoolgirl, Shanmuga Priya, and left a boy, Hari Surya, critically injured when a speeding car struck them on April 14, 2025 afternoon in Tamil Nadu’s Ramanathapuram district.

The incident occurred near a local temple in Sayalgudi as the two students were returning from a festival. The car, driven by 40-year-old Shiva, hit the children, killing Shanmuga Priya on the spot. Hari Surya, who sustained multiple injuries, was rushed to Ramanathapuram Government Hospital for treatment. The Sayalgudi Police arrested Shiva at 11:30 AM on the same day, and he is currently under interrogation.

The accident has plunged the local community into grief, with residents gathering to console the victims’ families. Despite recent efforts by Tamil Nadu authorities to curb road accidents through stricter traffic enforcement, such as speed control measures and warning signage, this incident highlights the persistent challenge of ensuring road safety in the region.
