LONDON, 25 October (H.S.): On Friday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and key European allies in London, delivering a sharp rebuke of Russia’s actions and declaring that President Vladimir Putin is not serious about peace. Following a coalition of the willing summit, the leaders presented a united front, pledging to intensify military and economic pressure on Moscow.
Flanked by the leaders of Denmark and the Netherlands and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, Starmer told President Zelensky, Your security is our security. He announced that the UK and its partners are strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses and accelerating a missile-building program.
The coalition praised new US sanctions on Russian oil, with Rutte stating that Putin is running out of money, troops and ideas. The leaders also discussed providing Ukraine with long-range capabilities, though a decision from the US on Tomahawk missiles remains under review by President Donald Trump.
President Zelensky thanked the allies, reiterating that sustained pressure is the only way to achieve a just peace. He described Russia’s attacks on energy infrastructure as a terror campaign designed to make the winter cold a tool of torment. The summit also addressed a proposal for a reparations loan funded by frozen Russian assets, with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen hopeful for a decision by Christmas Eve.
