Delhi, 15 June (H.S.): Steve Smith provided an update on his finger injury sustained during Australia’s five-wicket loss to South Africa in the WTC 2025 final. He dislocated his right little finger while attempting a catch, leading to his temporary exit from Day 3 for medical attention.

Smith stated, “I will be in a splint for eight weeks now and I may be able to play with it in a couple of weeks,” depending on his recovery. Fortunately, surgery wasn’t required, and he is likely to participate in the upcoming Test series against the West Indies.

The injury occurred while catching South Africa’s captain Temba Bavuma, who subsequently scored an important 66 runs. Smith recounted the incident, explaining he misjudged the ball’s trajectory while fielding close to the batter, which caused the injury but spared any fractures.
