
New Delhi, 5 February (HS): After Tuesday’s strong rise, today the domestic stock market was seen trading under pressure. Investors remained cautious in the domestic stock market today due to the tariff war started by US President Donald Trump with China and before the RBI’s monetary policy committee meeting. Today’s trading started strongly, but due to selling pressure during the day’s trading, both Sensex and Nifty indices fell and reached the red mark. Although buyers tried to support the market by buying several times in between, but the selling pressure was so high that the stock market could not succeed in recovering. After the whole day’s trading, Sensex closed with a decline of 0.40 percent and Nifty with a decline of 0.18 percent.
Today, during the whole day’s trading, there was continuous selling in the shares of consumer durables, FMCG, and automobile sector. On the other hand, there was continuous buying in the stocks of health care, metal and oil and gas sector. Similarly, the Public Sector Enterprise, Tech, Capital Goods, IT and Banking index also closed in the green with gains. There was continuous buying in the broader market today, due to which the BSE midcap index closed with a gain of 0.69 percent. Similarly, the smallcap index ended today’s trading with a gain of 1.42 percent.
Despite the weakness in the stock market today, the buying in midcap and small cap stocks increased the wealth of stock market investors by more than Rs 1.5 lakh crore. The market capitalization of companies listed on the BSE increased to Rs 427.12 lakh crore (provisional) after today’s trading. Whereas on the previous trading day i.e. Tuesday, their market capitalization was Rs 425.50 lakh crore. In this way, investors made a profit of about Rs 1.62 lakh crore from today’s trading.
There was active trading in 4,105 shares in BSE during the day’s trading today. Of these, 2,559 stocks closed with gains, while 1,407 stocks declined, while 139 stocks closed without any fluctuations. Active trading took place in 2,569 stocks on NSE today. Of these, 1,796 stocks closed in the green zone after making profits and 773 stocks closed in the red zone after suffering losses. Similarly, out of the 30 stocks included in the Sensex, 11 stocks closed with gains and 19 stocks closed with losses. While out of the 50 stocks included in the Nifty, 29 stocks closed in the green zone and 21 stocks closed in the red zone.
The BSE Sensex opened today with a gain of 120.79 points at 78,704.60 points. After the market opened, with the support of buying, this index jumped to 78,735.41 points with a gain of 151.60 points, but after this there was selling pressure in the market. Due to the selling pressure, this index fell more than 500 points from the upper level and fell to 78,216.25 points with a weakness of 367.56 points. After the day’s trading, the Sensex closed at 78,271.28 points with a weakness of 312.53 points.
Like the Sensex, NSE’s Nifty jumped 62.50 points today and started trading at the level of 23,801.75 points. After the market opened, there was a slight rise in this index, but after a short while, due to the start of selling, this index fell to the red mark. Although buyers tried to support the market by making a buying force several times, but the selling pressure was so high that this index kept falling. Due to continuous selling, the index fell by 58.80 points to reach the level of 23,680.45 points shortly before the end of today’s trading. However, in the end, on getting buying support, the index made a slight recovery from the lower level and closed at the level of 23,696.30 points with a decline of 42.95 points.
After the day’s trading, among the big stocks of the stock market, ONGC joined the list of today’s top 5 gainers with a gain of 2.97 percent, Hindalco Industries 2.85 percent, Apollo Hospital 2.24 percent, BPCL 2.07 percent and Adani Ports 1.71 percent. On the other hand, Asian Paints fell by 3.36 per cent, Titan Company by 2.97 per cent, Nestle by 2.20 per cent, Hindustan Unilever by 1.93 per cent and Britannia by 1.90 per cent to be included in the list of top 5 losers today.
