Stock Market Declines in Early Trading; Sensex and Nifty Fall

New Delhi, May 8 (HS): The domestic stock market is experiencing pressure in early trading today. After a strong opening, both Sensex and Nifty indices quickly fell into negative territory due to selling pressure. Despite intermittent attempts by buyers to gain momentum, there has been little improvement overall.

After the first hour, the Sensex dropped by 0.13 percent, while the Nifty fell by 0.14 percent. Among blue-chip stocks, Tata Motors, Coal India, Kotak Mahindra, and Adani Ports saw gains between 2.69 percent and 1.15 percent.

Conversely, stocks like Tata Consumer Products, ITC, and Maruti Suzuki experienced losses ranging from 2.36 percent to 1.35 percent. A total of 2,388 stocks were actively traded, with 1,967 in profit and 421 in loss. In the Sensex, 18 out of 30 stocks were up, while 12 faced selling pressure. The Nifty saw 23 stocks in the green and 27 in the red. The BSE Sensex opened at 80,912.34 points but soon faced profit booking, plunging to 80,657.30 points around 10 AM.

Nevertheless, buyer activity improved the index to 80,727.53 points by 10:15 AM. The NSE Nifty began at 24,431.50 points but fell to 24,373.45 points due to initial selling. By 10:15 AM, it was trading at 24,393.50 points, down by 20.90 points. On the previous day, the Sensex closed up 0.13 percent at 80,746.78 points, while the Nifty ended up 0.14 percent at 24,414.40 points.
