
New Delhi, May 23 (H.S.): The domestic stock market has exhibited an upward trend during early trading today, following a mixed flat opening. Initial buying activity contributed to a strong momentum, despite intermittent attempts at profit booking. After the first hour, the Sensex was up 0.79% and the Nifty increased by 0.85%. Key stocks such as Aditya Birla Group, Grasim Industries, Trent Limited, Infosys, and SBI Life Insurance reported gains between 1.56% to 2.70%. Conversely, shares like Sun Pharmaceuticals, Hindalco Industries, and ICICI Bank saw declines ranging from 0.08% to 3.23%. A total of 2,343 stocks were actively traded, with 1,549 in the profit zone and 794 in the loss zone. Notably, 29 of the 30 Sensex stocks were up due to buying support, while 48 of the 50 Nifty stocks also traded positively.
The BSE Sensex opened at 80,197 points, slightly down at first but quickly surged over 650 points, reaching 81,625.65 due to sustained buying. By 10:15 AM, the Sensex stood at 81,594.38, up 642.39 points. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty started at 24,639.50 points and rose past 200 points, reaching 24,826.65 before a minor sell-off brought it down slightly. As of 10:15 AM, the Nifty traded at 24,819.30, up 209.60 points. For context, the previous trading day saw the Sensex close down by 644.64 points and the Nifty down by 203.75 points.
