
New Delhi, October (HS): Domestic equity markets opened on a cautious note today but soon recovered as buying support lifted both benchmark indices, the Sensex and the Nifty, into positive territory. Although selling pressure emerged after the first half-hour of trade, both indices remained in the green. By 10 a.m., the Sensex was up 0.28%, while the Nifty gained 0.22%.
Among the major gainers in early trade were Titan Company, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tech Mahindra, Trent Limited, and Hindalco Industries, with gains ranging from 0.81% to 4.16%.
On the other hand, Cipla, Tata Motors, Axis Bank, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, and SBI Life Insurance traded lower, slipping between 0.35% and 0.83%.As of 10 a.m., trading activity was recorded in 2,107 stocks across the exchanges. Of these, 1,183 stocks advanced while 924 declined.
Within the Sensex pack of 30 companies, 18 were trading positively and 12 in the red. Similarly, on the Nifty, 24 out of the 50 listed stocks were in the green and 26 in the red.The BSE Sensex opened 27.24 points lower at 81,899.51 but quickly recovered as investors stepped in to buy.
Strong buying momentum lifted the index to an intraday high of 82,257.74 during the first half-hour of trade. Some profit booking was seen later, slightly trimming the gains. By 10 a.m., the Sensex was trading 226.58 points higher at 82,153.33.The NSE Nifty began the session 28.55 points down at 25,079.75 but soon rebounded to touch 25,192.50. After facing mild resistance from selling, it was trading 55.15 points higher at 25,163.45 by 10 a.m.
In the previous session on Tuesday, the Sensex had closed 136.63 points, or 0.17%, higher at 81,926.75, while the Nifty ended up 30.65 points, or 0.12%, at 25,108.30.
