
New Delhi, May 5 (H.S.): The India Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for storms, rainfall, hail, and lightning in many parts of the country, including the national capital Delhi-NCR, until May 8. Meteorologist Dr. Sanjeev Dwivedi stated that heavy rain is likely in Odisha today, and the warning for this has already been issued.
He mentioned that the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Gajapati in Odisha are included in this warning area. Hail is also possible during this period, and similar weather may continue tomorrow. Light rain is forecasted for May 7-8.
The India Meteorological Department noted that there may be a reduction in rainfall activities with thunder from May 7 in Odisha, the coastal areas of West Bengal along the Ganges, and the central and eastern parts of the country. In Himachal Pradesh, under an Orange Alert, heavy rain and hail have occurred in several places during the last 24 hours. In the village of Cheli in Chamba district, an elderly person was swept away by a cloudburst in a stream on Saturday night. His body has been recovered. By 8:30 AM on Sunday, winds were recorded at speeds of 70-100 kilometers per hour in some areas of eastern Rajasthan, central India, Odisha, and Jharkhand, with dust storms occurring in certain places. Winds also blew at speeds of 40-70 kilometers per hour in Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and western Rajasthan.
The effects of storms were noted in various places in the coastal regions of the Ganges in West Bengal, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, inland northern Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. Hail fell in some areas of Uttarakhand, western Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh. Heavy rain occurred in several places in Odisha and Meghalaya, leading to a drop in temperature.
According to meteorologists, a western disturbance is prevailing over northern Pakistan and adjacent Punjab and northwestern Rajasthan. Due to its influence, moderate rainfall with strong winds may occur in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh until May 10. There is also a possibility of scattered rainfall in Rajasthan during this period.
In Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, there was heavy rain and hail in the afternoon. Snowfall occurred on the peaks in Lahaul, along with rainfall in several areas. The Uttarakhand Disaster Management Authority has sent letters to all district magistrates, advising them to remain alert due to the bad weather. Schools have been advised to take precautions in the interest of student safety, and tourists have been warned not to be allowed into the higher Himalayan regions.
