Islamabad, August 19 (H.S.) : A 5.2-magnitude earthquake rattled parts of Pakistan on Tuesday morning at 10:20 AM, with tremors felt across the capital Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the quake’s epicenter lay in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region at a depth of 190 kilometers. Residents in Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, and Abbottabad also reported feeling strong jolts.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed that shocks were experienced across Punjab, including Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Lahore, Multan, Sahiwal, and Sargodha divisions. Fortunately, no casualties or damages have been reported so far. Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Faizi assured that the situation remains under control with no emergencies reported to date.
Geological experts highlight that Pakistan lies at the intersection of three major tectonic plates — the Arabian, Eurasian, and Indian — making the country highly prone to seismic activity. The Hindu Kush region is among the world’s most seismically active zones.
Earlier this month, another 5.1-magnitude earthquake had already shaken Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and nearby areas, causing buildings to sway and sparking concerns among residents.
