Jammu, Dec 29 (KINS): Residents of Sunjwan Jammu, located around Barmani road near Shiv Mandir and Green Valley, are facing a severe water shortage and have appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the Jal Shakti Minister to intervene and resolve the issue.
Locals say water supply is irregular and often absent for days. “Even when water comes, it lasts only 20 to 40 minutes, which is not enough for daily needs,” said Farooq Ahmad, a resident.
Despite an official water supply schedule, residents claim their area is frequently ignored. “Other localities get water on alternate days, but we remain without supply for long periods,” said Naseer Ahmad.
Due to the shortage, many families are forced to depend on private water tankers, which are costly. “Poor families cannot afford these tankers. Some people seem to be taking advantage of our situation,” said Shabir Ahmad.
Residents said they had earlier approached the Chief Minister’s office, after which water was supplied briefly. However, the problem soon returned. “Water was provided for a few days only, and then the supply stopped again,” said Fatima Bano.
Officials from the Jal Shakti Department were not available for comment.
The residents have urged the government to ensure a regular and permanent water supply to the area.(KINS)
