Surrender of arms and explosives continues in Manipur for the third day

Imphal, 24 February (HS): The process of surrender of arms and explosives in the state continued for the third day after the call of the Governor of Manipur. Police said on Monday that in this sequence, arms and ammunition were voluntarily surrendered by the public in Thoubal district. These include 01 SMG Carbine with Magazine, 01 Tear Gas Gun, 02 Sniper Rifle, 01 Double Barrel Gun, 01 Single Barrel Gun, 01 .38 mm Pistol, 02 Mortar Shell (2 inch), 02 IED (one 2.100 kg, other 1.070 kg), 07 High Explosive Hand Grenades (36 HE), 05 Handheld Radio Sets (Baofeng), 01 Patka from Thoubal District (under SP Office, Thoubal Police Station).

Whereas, 01 AK-56 Rifle with Magazine, 01 MAS Series Bolt Action Sniper Rifle (2.3.01×7.62 mm) with Magazine, 01 .303 Rifle with Magazine from Imphal East District (under Porampat Police Station). (Surrendered to SP, Imphal East) includes 02 Hand Grenades (36 HE), 30 .303 Ammunition, 11 AK Ammunition.

Also, 01 9mm Carbine A1 was surrendered in Imphal West District (under SP Office, Imphal Police Station). This step is being taken by the local people as part of the government’s initiative to encourage surrender of arms. The administration has appealed to continue this process.
