Augusta, April 14 (H.S.): History was made at Augusta National Golf Club on Sunday when Rory McIlroy won the title of The Masters 2025 by defeating Justin Rose in a thrilling playoff. With this victory, McIlroy also completed his career Grand Slam, becoming the sixth player in golf history to achieve this feat.

An Exciting Match Unfolds

McIlroy, who maintained the lead throughout the tournament, lost a two-shot advantage early on the final day. He then lost a four-shot lead over three holes on the back nine. A mistake on the 13th hole turned the match into a thriller when his shot went into Rae’s Creek, leading to a double bogey.

Despite the tough conditions, McIlroy did not give up. On the 15th hole, he hit an excellent 7-iron shot to reach the ball to six feet and made a birdie to equal the score. Then on the 17th hole, playing a brilliant shot with an 8-iron, he brought the ball to two feet and made a birdie to take a one-shot lead.

Justin Rose also made an incredible comeback. After scoring 75 on Saturday, Rose returned to the title race on the final day with ten birdies. He made a 20-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to bring the match to a playoff. However, luck did not favor him again in the playoff.

In the playoff, McIlroy reached the ball to three feet on his third shot and made a birdie to claim the title. After the victory, he knelt down and shed tears of joy. With this title, he ended an eleven-year major championship drought and joined the ranks of legends like Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus.
