Washington, April 09 (H.S.): The ongoing tension regarding tariffs between the United States and China has now intensified further. US President Donald Trump has announced a 104 percent tariff on certain goods imported from China, to be effective from midnight on April 09. This action has been taken in response to China’s imposition of an additional 34 percent tariff on the US.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated in a press briefing that this tough decision was made after China refused to retract its tariffs. She said, The United States will protect its interests and will not accept China’s unfair trade practices. This tariff will be effective from April 09.
According to Sources, President Trump had previously warned that if China did not withdraw its tariff decision by April 08, the US would impose an additional 50 percent tariff. However, this fee has now been increased to 104 percent, making it clear that the US is fully prepared to take stringent measures against China.
Following this decision, China’s response was also sharp. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce strongly condemned the US decision, calling it one mistake on top of another and warned of fighting to the end. The ministry stated that this move by the US would not only harm bilateral trade but also increase instability in global markets.
