Washington, September 14(HS): Amid widespread scrutiny and backlash, US President Donald Trump publicly praised FBI Director Kash Patel for his instrumental role in the swift arrest of the suspect accused of fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The arrest of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson occurred just 33 hours after the deadly shooting at Utah Valley University, underscoring the rapid progress of the federal investigation.
Speaking exclusively to Fox News Digital, Trump expressed strong approval of Patel and the FBI’s work in resolving the high-profile case, stating, “I am very proud of the FBI. Kash—and everyone else—they have done a great job.” Trump also highlighted his personal connection to Kirk, describing the slain activist as “like a son” and expressing hope that Robinson will receive the death penalty.
The investigation faced early challenges when Patel prematurely announced the apprehension of a suspect on social media, only to retract the claim shortly afterward as local authorities clarified that the shooter was still at large. This misstep led to criticism from some former FBI officials and political voices questioning Patel’s leadership.
Despite the controversy, Patel maintained a visible, hands-on approach throughout the investigation. At a press conference in Utah, he credited the collaborative efforts of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and thanked President Trump for the resources that enabled the fast resolution.
In a heartfelt tribute, Patel addressed Kirk directly: “To my friend, Charlie Kirk: Rest now, brother. We have the watch. And I’ll see you in Valhalla.”
The suspect Robinson was arrested in his hometown of Washington, Utah, after being turned in by his father. Prosecutors are preparing formal charges, and Robinson is being held without bail.
This high-profile case is part of a disturbing surge of political violence in the United States, with Kirk’s assassination amplifying calls for justice and national security. Trump’s staunch defense of Patel underscores the political sensitivity surrounding the investigation and the FBI’s critical role in addressing domestic threats.
While Patel’s leadership has drawn mixed reactions, the arrest demonstrates the agency’s ability to act swiftly under intense pressure, closing a tragic chapter while highlighting ongoing security challenges in America.
