Washington, February 28 (HS): President Donald Trump has announced the end of the discrimination policy. The White House said that the Trump administration remains committed to giving priority to merit in recruitment.
According to the White House, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced yesterday that the Justice Department dismissed several Biden-era lawsuits against the police and fire departments. The dismissed lawsuits include United States v. City of Durham (North Carolina), United States v. Maryland State Police, United States v. Cobb County (Georgia) and United States v. City of South Bend (Indiana).
The Biden administration found the tests disqualified Black and female applicants from the hiring process at significantly disproportionate rates, concluding that the tests violated a federal statute that prohibits employment discrimination based on race, sex, color, national origin, and religion.
President Donald Trump signed executive orders ending Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies in the federal government, and Bondi’s decision this week is the latest chapter in that ongoing anti-DEI effort under the new administration.
“American communities deserve firefighters and police officers to be chosen for their skill and dedication to public safety – not to meet DEI quotas,” said Attorney General Bondi.
