Kamchatka (Russia), July 30 (H.S.): A powerful magnitude 8.7 earthquake struck near the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia early wednesday morning, prompting a tsunami warning across the Pacific Ocean. The quake, recorded by the US Geological Survey (USGS), is the strongest in recent decades and occurred 136 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

In response, Japan’s government has elevated its tsunami advisory to a warning, anticipating waves up to 3 meters high, and has ordered coastal evacuations. Tsunami warnings extend to Taiwan, the Philippines, Hawaii, and the Aleutian Islands in Alaska, with advisories for much of the US West Coast. Immediate action is being taken to ensure public safety amidst the threats of dangerous tsunami waves.
