Two Arrested for Spying for Pakistan from Amritsar

Chandigarh, May 4 (H.S.): Punjab Police has arrested two individuals in Amritsar on charges of espionage. Both were reportedly sending sensitive information related to the army cantonment and air force base in Amritsar to Pakistan.

On Sunday, Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav informed reporters that a mobile phone was recovered from the arrested suspects, containing images of army movements and the air force base. The two were connected to Harpreet Singh alias Pithtu alias Happy, who is currently imprisoned in Amritsar jail. The suspects have been identified as Palak Sher Masiha and Suraj Masiha.

It was mentioned that an Official Secrets Act case has been registered in this matter. In this context, the SSP of Amritsar Rural, Maninder Singh, informed reporters that the arrested suspect Palak works in furniture, while Suraj is a laborer. Photos and videos have been recovered from both of their phones. They were in contact with Pakistani agents through Happy, who is currently imprisoned for a case involving 500 grams of heroin.

For sending a single picture, they charged between 5,000 to 10,000 rupees. Information about police check posts, in addition to that of the army and airbase, was also sent to Pakistan. He mentioned that it is still to be determined since when both have been sending information to Pakistan. According to the police’s initial investigation, both young men are addicted to drugs, which raises suspicion about how they got trapped in the ISI net.

So far, the police have not obtained their criminal record. To investigate this matter, the police will also take Harpreet Singh alias Happy on a production warrant, so that his Pakistani links can also come to light. Currently, the police are conducting an investigation.
