Two -Day Visitor's conference at Rashtrapati Bhavan Concludes today

New Delhi, March 4 (HS): President Droupadi Murmu, while addressing the concluding session of the two-day Visitors Conference at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday, said that it is extremely necessary and challenging to have a system-based and flexible education system in accordance with the special talent and needs of the students.

The President said ,our national goal is to make India a developed country even before the first half of this century is over. To achieve this goal, all the people associated with educational institutions and students will have to move forward with global thinking. By strengthening internationalization efforts and cooperation, young students will be able to make a more effective identity for themselves in the 21st century world. The availability of excellent education in the country’s higher education institutions will reduce the tendency to study abroad. The country’s young talent will be better utilized in nation building.

The President said ,India is moving towards becoming the third largest economy in the world. Being self-reliant is the identity of a truly developed, big and strong economy. Self-reliance based on research and innovation will strengthen our enterprises and economy. Such research and innovation should get every possible support.

She highlighted that the relationship between education and industry appears strong in developed economies. Due to continuous exchange between the industry and higher education institutions, research work remains linked to the needs of the economy and society.

She urged the heads of higher education institutions to make institutional efforts to have continuous discussions with senior people of industrial institutions in mutual interests. She said that this will benefit the teachers and students doing research work. She said that connecting the laboratories of educational institutions with local, regional, national and global needs should be the priority of all of you.

The President said that it is very important and challenging to have a system-based and flexible education system in accordance with the special talent and needs of the students. In this context, there is a need to remain constantly alert and active based on today’s discussions. Appropriate changes should keep happening on the basis of experience. The objective of such changes should be to empower the students.

The President said, Anation becomes powerful and developed only on the strength of characterful, sensible and capable youth. Educational institutions build the character, wisdom and capacity of our young students.

She expressed confidence that the heads of higher educational institutions will achieve the glorious ideals of higher education and gift a golden future to the young progeny of Mother India.

The conference deliberated on topics such as flexibility in academic courses, credit sharing and credit transfer with multiple entry and exit options; internationalization efforts and collaboration; translational research and innovation related to converting research or innovation into useful products and services; effective student selection process and respect for students’ choice in the context of NEP; and effective assessment and evaluation. The results of the deliberations were presented to the President.
