Iraq, 1 July (H.S.): Late Monday, two rockets struck the military section of Kirkuk airport in northern Iraq, targeting facilities used by the Iraqi Army, federal police, and Hashed al-Shaabi forces. A senior security official reported that a third rocket hit a house in the Uruba neighborhood, though fortunately, there were no injuries linked to this strike. Iraq’s INA news agency noted one rocket impacted near the airport’s runway while another struck a residential area. So far, no group has affirmed responsibility for the attacks. Despite the incidents, Kirkuk International Airport’s management confirmed that all operations continue normally, denying any claims of damage or injuries.
They emphasized that the civilian facilities, including the runway and infrastructure, remain unaffected. Iraq has recently experienced a period of relative stability following years of conflict, despite persistent tensions that have led to numerous rocket and drone attacks, including an incident last week targeting military bases in Baghdad and southern Iraq amidst a ceasefire between Iran and Israel.
